The story is an ambivalent creation. The reader can’t ignore the associations that come up through reading the story- remembering especially Russia in Stalin’s period of time (1927-1953), and Germany between 1933-1945, in Hitler’s days. “1984” was written by Orwell at 1952, with obvious intentions to refer to these two countries. Therefore, the allegory, which gives the story another meaning, enriches the plot and grants the book most of its beauty.
