From posters on the wall, to the money in their pockets, members of the Outer Party never escape the omniscient stare of Big Brother. The ministries emphasizing their power over the people through their slogans: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength. In the world of Oceania, these make complete sense because they are all forms of manipulation executed by the Party. However, could these ideas the slogans present apply to modern society?

example is the pursuit of happiness. The government, religion, and/or society deem a certain action towards happiness acceptable, or otherwise. Corrective measures are carried out against offenders committing “unacceptable” actions.
It is not too late to reverse the decline towards totalitarianism America approaches. Unlike the people of 1984, Americans still posses the power to overthrow an oppressive government. War does not have to be peace, freedom should not be slavery, ignorance can never be strength.
