I read Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt. McCourt was a Pulitzer Prize winning author in
1997. He writes non-fiction based on his life. Angela’s Ashes is an autobiography about his
childhood experiences. McCourt lived in Limerick, Ireland with his poor, immigrant family. He
moved to New York City at age 19. He worked as a high school English teacher for 45 years.
In 1935 it was common for Irish families to come to America; instead the McCourts

that was going on when the
subject and years seemed to pass with the turn of a page. One particular example is close to the
middle of the book when the boys go from being school aged children to teenagers looking for
ways to help support their mother. All in all this is a good book, it brings the plight of human
suffering home and has some great morals that still stand as truth today.
