Booker T. Washington vs. W.E.B. Dubois W.E.B. Dubois and Booker T. Washington were two of the greatest leaders in the black community in the late 19th and 20th century. Washington is best remembered for helping black Americans rise up from the economic slavery that held them long after they were legally free citizens and Dubois for his philosophy of agitation and protest which flowed directly into the Civil Rights movement of the 1950’s and 60’s.
