Constructing Reality
A documentary is a piece of work presenting political, social, or historical subjects in a factual and informative manner. I believe a proper documentary should present facts objectively without prejudices, should not combine fiction with factual information, and must be truthful. The truth presented in a documentary should be the whole truth, not just a bias presentation of selective information. The footage, interviews, sounds, and narration need to be true to the topic and not used to misconstrue the reality. A good filmmaker will not bring his or her repertoire of experience or views to alter the truth. I believe documentaries should follow my guidelines instead of being a creative treatment of reality, which leaves them vulnerable to becoming absolute fiction.
