Daniel Morgan
General Daniel Morgan was born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1736. He was known as a legendary brawler and drinker in county full of brawlers and drinkers. He moved to Virginia at 19, a civilian wagoner during the French and Indiana War serving on the Virginia frontier under General Edward Braddock. General in his command of troops in the southern department in North Carolina. Retiring to his Virginia estate in 1781 after the war, he was recalled to duty to help stop the Whiskey Rebellion. As a Federalist, he served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1797-1799. He died in 1802, a revered hero of the Revolutionary generation. In my opinion I don’t think there was ever a better field commander.
