Euthyphro was an orthodox professional interpreter of religion and a theologian. He claims he has an accurate knowledge of divine otherwise he is good for nothing and there is no difference between him and the general public. He was prosecuting his own father on a charge of murder even though the victim was himself a murderer. No matter which way Euthyphro turns, Socrates follows with an even harder question. By the end of the dialogue, Euthyphro has completely lost his bearings, unable to answer anything to Socrates satisfaction. He isn’t sure any more what piety is and rushes off.
