The Frankenstein “monster” is a misunderstood creature who is tormented
excessively by loneliness and lack of social acceptance. The monster was an immoral
experiment of a modern Prometheus on his quest to overcome death. The monster was
considered horribly disgusting and revolting to all those who viewed him. The novel
states that “the yellow skin of the creature barely covers the muscles and arteries

is described as ironic because although one imagines a barren, desolate landscape in the
arctic regions of the earth, Robert finds this setting to be lustrous and magnificent. “The
sun is forever visible, it’s broad disk just skirting the horizon and diffusing a perpetual
splendor.” (15) This quote is a strange contrast to his loneliness while exploring these
regions. Furthermore, this contrast can also be applied to Frankenstein’s loneliness
throughout the entire novel.
