In 1968, South Vietnam came under a large-scale sweeping attack from North Vietnamese and Vietcong forces. Many cities and rural areas were attacked simultaneously. The graphic nature of this movie is shocking and was certainly meant to be, but without the graphic detail the meaning would be lost. Stanley Krubrick’s depiction of boot camp and the Vietnam War forces the viewer to no longer see war through rose-tinted glasses but as raw harsh reality.
