An investigation into Galileo’s condemnation was opened by Pope John Paul II in 1979, and in October of 1992 a papal commission acknowledged the Vatican's error in persecuting Galileo, 350 years after his death. Galileo goes down in history as one of the most brilliant and inventive men ever to walk the earth.
