to Nick, even though it seemed to be much of how Gatsby gets treated. At the start of the novel Nick says how ‘wild unknown men’, and ‘veteran bores’ confides in him. After reading, and reflecting back through the events of the novel, it is recognized that Gatsby confided in him also and this was just another one of those problems he was ‘lending an ear to’ but eventually became moved by the catastrophic ending.
