George Orwell
Introduction
George Orwell lived in England during World War Two, when England
had been at war with the totalitarian state, Nazi Germany. He was there when
London was blanket bombed and left in rubble by the Germans. Like many
writers he decided to make a statement with his work, and did. George Orwell’s
novel 1984 was written as a political statement of against totalitarianism.

As you can see Orwell painted a bleak and disturbing picture of a
totalitarian government. He purposly makes the story unrealistic and blown out of
proportion to get peoples attention and to make them think maybe it wouldn’t be
unrealistic in the future. He thought that the unstable European economy
following WWII might possibly give rise to such a government and wanted to
forewarn the public.
