Louisa ends up a mess when shown tenderness and Thomas who is really a victim to bad bringing up ends up in exile in another country. "Hard Times" showed a new upcoming era, where computers, facts and unsentimental values were rated. A colder and less living society, where people are machines and not thinking individuals. "Hard Times" could say a lot then, but maybe even more today.
