“If” Analysis
In the poem “If”, Rudyard Kipling deals with the misunderstandings and public pressures that confronted the statesmen of the Victorian era, the ability to master one’s dreams and thoughts, and the ability to take triumphs and loses in stride without complaining. Kipling produces a catchy rhythm. This keeps the reader in tack with the flow of the poem, and keeps them entertained. The rhyme and rhyme code also help to develop the theme of the play. In “If” Kipling is very distinctive with his diction by using words like doubt, hate, lies, and blame in the first stanza so the reader realizes all of the hardships the statesmen had to go through in their overbearing professions.
