Duncan Campbell Scott´ s poem “The Forsaken” deals with two stages in the life of a Chippewa women. The first part contains an episode when she is a young mother fighting her way through the wilderness of the “north-land” “with her sick baby “during a great storm”. The second part deals with the time when she is left behind by her grandchildren to die.

Paying a lot of attention to the stylistic and structural realisation of the poem Scott achieves that the content of the poem is not only told but worked out on each of the three levels of content, structure and style.
