Duncan Campbell Scott´ s poem “The Forsaken” deals with two stages in the life of a Chippewa women. The first part contains an episode when she is a young mother fighting her way through the wilderness of the “north-land” “with her sick baby “during a great storm”. The second part deals with the time when she is left behind by her grandchildren to die.
