Jan Brueghel the Elder
The artist I am going to look at is Jan Brueghel the elder. Brueghel was, born in Brussels. As the most talented son of Pieter Brueghel the elder, he devoted his early career to flower painting and still life’s and his suave renderings earned him the nickname ‘Velvet’ Brueghel. a contrast between the back and fore ground giving a luminous quality to the flowers.
Whilst looking at this piece I cannot decide whether I disliked or liked it. With its dark colours that are so typical of 17th century Dutch art and with the amount of time it must have taken to compose the piece with different flowers blooming at different time of the year and its photographic quality it is hard to decide.
