Steinbeck’s reasons for making Lennie developmentally disabled are: to get the climaxes, explain Georges personality and help give the book a charming tone. With out Lennie’s condition there wouldn’t be much if any to the story. It makes one think that the only way this book could have be written is if there was a developmentally disabled person.
