The movie “Traffic” and the book “The Corner” by David Simon are clear examples of one, if not the most serious, problem that our society is facing, the use of drugs and the war on them. They explain the reality that affects a big segment of our society and the attempts by an inefficient government to stop the flow of drugs in the streets.

legislators don’t know what is happening in our inner-cities, don’t know what is happening in the corner of Monroe and Fayette Street, we need actions at a local level that apply to the reality of the situation. Prop 36 is a step forward in this process but there is the need for more legislation and intervention in the treatment of addiction in order to keep our streets clean of drugs and violence.
