As a result of people’s dependence on things their personalities are brought down. In “A Separate Peace” by John Knowles and “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton Finny’s and Dally’s dependence is negative because it makes them both vulnerable, contrastingly Finny’s dependence causes him to be in denial while Dally’s dependence causes him to be aggressive and lash out.

This quote shows that Dally is very dependent on Johnny because he is only concerned about Johnny even after they had just beaten up the Socs. And Dally had nothing on his mind except him. This dependence on Johnny and his feelings for him gives Dally a soft side and makes him more vulnerable because when Johnny gets hurt it hurts Dally. Dally,being the tough guy, is severily hurt
