extreme male stereotype. Spade chases skirts and money, not particularly caring about who he needs to double cross or trample down to get either. He calls the men by their surname and the women by pet names. One wonders if Spade is on a first name basis with anyone. I congratulate Dashiell Hammett for creating such a deplorable character who became so popular. In the era we live in now, Sam Spade would not exist.
