Symbolism as it was used in “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” created many powerful and complex themes along with several possible allegories. Coleridge conveyed his message discretely enough as not to preach fire and brimstone, but prolific enough to teach readers a lesson in love and respect, sin and retribution, and life and death.
