The Crucible is a great play about the Salem Witch trials occurring in the 1690’s, which history has never forgotten. The main character, John Proctor, goes through a crucible, or severe test of his own, as the witch trials are taking place. Arthur Miller chose the right title for the book because of its definition, which reflects to the plot of the story. So, a crucible is a difficult test, which the whole story is based on.
