in “The Masque of the Red Death” in a few ways. The interior of the house had tall crimson windows and is very dark. These windows most likely symbolize bloodshed and death; again the also foreshadow the death that is inevitably coming. The setting in “The Fall of the House of Usher” excellently develops the story by showing how the family and house are one entity and how death and decay completely surrounds that entity.
