the train by making sure he has the gun. If the gun had fallen, Dave probably would have gotten off of the train. The only since of manhood this boy has is a gun in his pocket. Then again, his only hope for manhood is breaking free from his parents’ shortcomings. Although Dave was very irresponsible in his actions this gun was his ticket out of town and his only hope for becoming a man.
