Two businessmen bought the mission soon after guld was discovered in Coloma. California, In 1859 president Buchanan gave the mission to the Catholics. The mission today stands as a monument to the early Californians. The mission is a link to our past, helping us to understand life in the 1700’s and the 1800’s.
