In The Pearl by John Steinbeck there was a lot of greed. The greed caused a lot of
problems for all the characters. All of the greed started when Kino found a pearl to help
with his son Coyotito’s illness. When everyone heard about Kino’s great pearl they all
wanted some of his fortune, but three certain acts of greediness stood out in different
ways.

things going wrong. For example someone who
was greedy and jealous burned down Kino and Juana’s hut and Coyotito was killed. The
novel also displayed that good things may turn out bad, and having a lot of money or
owning something of great value can diminish a strong family and others around you.
Kino later threw the great pearl into the water “and the music of the pearl drifted to a
whisper and disappeared”(90).
