I believe that the statements and actions of Robespierre are a departure from the ideas of the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment. In my opinion the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment were a time where science and curiosity flourished. The Scientific Revolution drastically changed humanity’s course. The Enlightenment weakened its hold of superstition on people and encouraged them to think of new ways to do things. Robespierre is an opposite of this view point

democracy to create in my opinion a dictatorship. Where else would one who did not support the government be killed through torture of the Reign of Terror? Despite his ideas I believe that Robespierre had more than just a democratic country in mind when he wrote The Republic of Virtue. Although he added many democratic steps to ensure his own republic, his basic ambitions and goals were to create a revolution of control by himself.
