Thurgood Marshall was born on July 2, 1908 in Baltimore. He grew up in Baltimore and
graduated from an all-black high school at the age of 16. He then attended Lincoln University in
Chester County, Pennsylvania, which is the nation’s oldest historically black college. After
graduating with honors from Lincoln in 1930, Marshall applied to the University of Maryland
