I believe that it is the contributions of the witches, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth himself that cause Duncan’s murder. Undoubtedly, it is temptation and ambition that drive both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to commit their crimes, although without the trickery within the witches’ prophecies, Macbeth would not have been so confident in himself, and would perhaps not have had such a “Vaulting ambition.”
