A satire is a literary work in which human foolishness and vice are criticised. Satire employs humour and wit to ridicule human institutions or humanity itself, in order that they might be remodelled or improved.

Century in ‘A Modest Proposal’. Although satire is generally intended to amuse, I do believe that some people may take on board the general criticism. Swift has a clever way of making other people uncomfortable and in much of his work he was able to successfully make his readers uneasy. Using his wittiness and creativeness, he makes us face our moral inadequacies and compels us to enjoy the process of being brought to such awareness.
