Today, John Brown and his followers created a bloody raid in 1855. John Brown is New Englander who moved to Kansas to fight against the Kansas/ Nebraska Act. John Brown's party shot and killed five Bushwhackers. The Bushwhackers were the people for slavery, and the people against slavery were known as the Jayhawkers.

The Kansas/Nebraska Act stated that the people Kansas and Nebraska had the chance for legal slavery only if the people of those states voted pro-slavery even though these states were above the line of the Missouri Compromise. The North greatly disagreed with this Act causing the conflicts between the South and the North.
