Dorothea Tanning was born August 25, 1910 in Galesburg Illinois. She was an artist from a very young age, showing interest in her free time, as she worked first in a library, then doing school publications, and finally a booth at Chicago’s World Fair in 1931. In a world of fanciful creatures and settings like this one that Dorothea Tanning created, a viewer can be lost in its ambiguous meaning; I think it’s futile to speculate about what a painting from 1946 meant originally to the artist.
