The Glass Menagerie
I found the character of the mother Amanda Wingfield really quite
annoying to listen to after a few moments of hearing her. It brought
back many memories of my ex-husband’s mother. She was just as
much a nag as Amanda. A person could never sit down at the dinner
table without her yelling at someone to get his or her elbows off the
table, or chew with one’s mouth close.

she wanted to keep him under her shirttails, and
she hated him going to the movies; she thought he was lying to
her, saying, “ Nobody goes to the movies night after night, No
body in their right minds goes to the movies as often as you pre-
tend to,” Which would implies, “I do not believe you.”
Amanda is a very pushy and demanding woman, and I could
not live with a person like Amanda.
